Some jobs (create-sites etc) run on a periodic basis, and I wonder if they shouldn't just be triggered by filesystem events - eg, creation/modification/deletion of monitored files.

I could see an argument against this - in the form of minimising the number of runs of say, symbiosis-httpd-configure when creating a new domain - but over time that would give quicker results for the user, prevent them from having to wonder when the next run is, and make the system feel more interactive.
